The Far North 2015

When: January to April 2015

To support the Yukon Quest Dogsled Race (1000+ miles)

To support the Yukon Arctic Ultra Race (450 mile race)

To race in the Iditarod Trail Invitational to McGrath (350 miles on foot)

Total Cost: £6500

In late January, 2015, I will left for the Yukon Territory, in northwest Canada. After seeing the Yukon Quest dogsled race leave Whitehorse, I traveled to Pelly Ranch, and from there to a cabin at Scroggie Creek.  The dogs started arriving within a few days after my arrival.  After a week without action, competitors in a footrace began passing through.

Once the support role was completed, I headed over to Anchorage, Alaska. This was my first year racing in the Iditarod Trail Invitational, a 350-mile route from Anchorage to McGrath.  A full race report can be found here.

The goal was to maximise my fun and adventures in the outdoors, and to produce articles, a book and online videos of my exploits, in the hope of encouraging others to get out more for fun and adventures. This project was a celebration of The Great Outdoors, The Yukon Territory, winter sports, and the simple idea of getting out and having fun through activity, even in the extreme cold.
